Here are some random thoughts that were bouncing around my cavernous head as I was putting this list together. I tried to catalog the comments so they coincide with the order in which each player is ranked:

* The first four slots, in some order, are relatively unanimous. However, who to take at #5, after King James, CP3, Kobe, and Amare are off the board – is where it gets tricky. I know Dirk is definitely not a sexy/exciting pick, but he might be just too consistent and reliable to pass up in order to take a chance on a guy like Brand or Wade.

* Wade is truly the ultimate 'risk versus reward' selection. When healthy, he is as good as it gets. But, Wade has missed 31 games in each of the last two seasons and has missed at least 20 games in three of the five years he has been in the league.

* On the other hand, Elton Brand is one of only five NBA players over the past 20 years to average 20 points and 10 rebounds per game for his career (the other four being Shaq, Duncan, KG, and David Robinson).

* Josh Smith's upside is downright scary. Every season he keeps on getting better. Last year was the third consecutive season in which his scoring, assists, FG%, and steals all increased from the previous season. Moreover, he was the only player in the NBA to average at least 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals.
