Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Pau Gasol recorded game-highs with 36 points and 16 rebounds, also dishing out eight assists as the Los Angeles Lakers used a strong second half to blitz the Denver Nuggets, 128-114, in Game 1 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series from Staples Center.

The Lakers broke open a close game in the third quarter with a 13-2 run. After Anthony's finger-roll made it a 60-58 lead for LA, Gasol hung tough inside and his putback spurred the surge, which ended on a Bryant jumper with 7:58 to play that gave the home team a 73-60 edge.
